GLAS Paving the Way as an Architectural Icon for Green Office Buildings

The world’s most recognizable structures are bolstered by their outstanding architecture and design. Their ingenuity on the construction and the cultural backdrop serves as a primary factor for their popularity and their iconic statuses. And that leads to their staying power, becoming the icons that the world recognizes them for.

Behind the iconography of the seminal tower GLAS are the meticulous features that determines its structure, style and sustainability. On the designing of this 42-storey office skyscraper over a robust skyline, every aspect of the tower ensures that it succeeds the standards of a green building with form and function.

For an icon that delivers the elements of light, space and technology, the elegance of GLAS comes from its all-glass façade. The use of double-glazed triple low-e high-performing glass forms the crystalline exterior and the tower’s iconic shape that take semblance of a shining gem.

Adding to those details are the frit patterns that take a diamond-shaped outline, surrounding the façade at the sides of the tower. Every angle provides a unique radiance over GLAS, helped by these graphic trilateral patterns. And with the strategic position of the tower, it clears GLAS from any lucent obstruction, keeping its structural purity.

The option of using this type of high-performing glass window was a drastic measure implemented before its completion, yet it brought GLAS to its iconic status – the first office tower in the Philippines to use double-glazed, triple low-e glass technology.

The brilliance of its veneer extends to the high, grand lobby. With a triple-story ceiling, the lobby brings an impressive invitation that stands out from the outside. The lucidity of the glass gives leeway for GLAS’ in-house LED screen – the largest indoor LED screen for an office setting in the region – to greet visitors to the towers and invite onlookers to revel on GLAS’ brilliance.

The lobby also highlights the tower’s innovative utilization of spatial geometry. The space allocated after the main entrance and the elevator entryways allow for seamless pedestrian flow for employees, visitors and other personnel, as well as sanctioning spaces for social distancing and personal wellness. While contributing to the tower’s emblematic shape, the tapered profile enables for a sharper space configuration, utilizing an even light distribution and giving GLAS’ gem-like wonder. Added that the office spaces contain a floor plate of an estimated 2,100 square meters, GLAS’ spatiality illuminates the tower’s ingenuity from the ground up.

The picturesque presence of GLAS over the skyline has also an impact to the local scenery. Its access to Emerald Avenue helps catch the eye for motorists, and its proximity to the adjacent Ortigas Park fits to its furnished landscape

The standards of a green building does not end on compliance to local regulations, nor adherence to feasible design. The tenacity of GLAS for innovation, form and sustainability sets the benchmark for ecological-adherent architecture over the Ortigas area’s thriving landscape.

Even as a LEED Platinum-certified building, GLAS represents the ingenuity that green architecture can elevate on design and engineering. From its cutting-edge glass technology to the diamond-like contour, the tower stands as an innovative model and a growing icon reinventing the game for sustainable architecture.
